I was amazed at how fast the process was. I uploaded my work experience and documents, and within days I was well on my way to getting certified. OnlineRPL helped me save both time and money — no need to sit in a classroom or pay hefty course fees.

The platform is super simple. I completed everything online between job sites using just my phone. The step-by-step guidance made it stress-free. Highly recommended for busy tradies like me.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked
Questions

Construction Waterproofing RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is a pathway that allows experienced waterproofers in the construction industry to obtain a nationally recognised qualification without undergoing traditional coursework. Instead, your existing skills and knowledge are assessed to verify competency.

Key Information:
  1. Formal recognition of existing waterproofing skills and experience.
  2. Leads to a nationally recognised qualification in waterproofing.
  3. No need to repeat what you already know through formal study.

Eligibility for Waterproofing RPL generally includes individuals with relevant waterproofing experience, whether through employment, subcontracting, or supervision roles. Formal qualifications are not required, but experience must be verifiable.

Key Information:
  1. Minimum 2–3 years waterproofing experience (on-site or supervising).
  2. No formal qualification needed to apply.
  3. Must supply work history, job photos, and references.

Your waterproofing skills will be assessed through an RPL process by a qualified assessor. You’ll need to provide documentation of your work, including evidence such as job photos, references, and completed project lists. A competency conversation and potential observation may also occur.

Key Information:
  1. Submit documentation: work photos, references, job logs, etc.
  2. Undergo competency conversation with a certified assessor.
  3. Demonstrate your waterproofing skills in real-world contexts.

Becoming certified through RPL can save you time and money while increasing your chances of getting licensed or winning contracts. It formalises your skills and improves your professional credibility.

Key Information:
  1. Faster and cheaper than traditional classroom training.
  2. Helps meet licensing or compliance requirements in some states.
  3. Increases employability and confidence with clients.

The RPL process for waterproofing can take as little as 2–4 weeks if you have your evidence ready and respond quickly to the assessor's requests. More complex cases or evidence collection may extend the timeframe.

Key Information:
  1. Standard time: 2–6 weeks depending on readiness.
  2. Depends on quality and quantity of supporting documents.
  3. Faster if you respond promptly and submit complete files.

A waterproofing qualification allows you to perform tasks in accordance with national construction codes and may contribute to your licensing application (depending on the state). This includes:
  • Internal and external wet area waterproofing (e.g. bathrooms, balconies)
  • Basement tanking and membrane application
  • Waterproofing roofs, decks, and retaining walls
  • Commercial and residential waterproofing jobs
It can also support applications for NSW Fair Trading waterproofing license and other relevant state-based certifications.
